Halifax to Cancún All-Inclusive: Flights, Resorts & Tips
Cancún is the easiest all-inclusive trip from Halifax this winter. Four airlines fly non-stop, and from mid-December there’s a departure every day of the week. The bigger choice is where to stay: the busy Cancún Hotel Zone, quieter Playa Mujeres just north of it, or the Riviera Maya further south toward Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
This guide covers the direct flights, how the areas compare, resort picks checked against the resorts’ own sites, seaweed season, airport transfers and entry rules for Canadians. Flight details come from Halifax Stanfield, checked October 20, 2026. We don’t quote prices; package and resort rates change daily.

Direct flights from Halifax to Cancún this winter
Halifax Stanfield’s non-stop list shows four airlines on the route for winter 2026–27:
| Airline | Days | Season |
|---|---|---|
| Air Canada | Tue, Sat | Oct 27, 2026 – Apr 27, 2027 |
| WestJet | Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun | Oct 31, 2026 – May 9, 2027 |
| Air Transat | Mon, Wed, Thu, Sat | Dec 17, 2026 – Apr 29, 2027 |
| Porter | Tue, Fri, Sun | Dec 18, 2026 – Apr 30, 2027 |
Before mid-December, only Air Canada and WestJet fly the route. Once Air Transat and Porter start, every day of the week has at least one departure. All four land at Cancún International Airport (CUN), which serves both Cancún and the Riviera Maya. For every sun route from YHZ, see our direct winter flights from Halifax guide.
Cancún Hotel Zone vs Riviera Maya
- Cancún Hotel Zone: a long strip of resorts between the sea and the lagoon, with restaurants, nightlife and shopping close by. It suits first-timers, families who want lots to do, and anyone who wants to leave the resort in the evening.
- Playa Mujeres: just north of Cancún. It’s quieter and more self-contained, so you’ll need a ride to get into town.
- Riviera Maya: the coast south of Cancún, including Playa del Carmen and Tulum. It’s more spread out, with a walkable town centre in Playa del Carmen and the Maya ruins at Tulum. The trade-off is a longer airport transfer the further south you go.

Best day trip from Cancún: book a full-day Chichén Itzá tour with Valladolid and a cenote swim on Viator. Most tours include hotel pickup in the Hotel Zone.
Best all-inclusives by type
We’ve only included details the resorts publish on their own sites, checked October 2026. Always confirm room types, age rules and what’s included before you book.
Families: Hyatt Ziva Cancun
Hyatt Ziva Cancun welcomes all ages and sits on the Punta Cancún peninsula in the Hotel Zone. Hyatt says it’s the only resort in the area surrounded on three sides by the sea, with three infinity pools, a KidZ Club and private balconies in every room. Hyatt’s FAQ says airport transfers aren’t included.
Adults-only near Cancún: Excellence Playa Mujeres
Excellence Playa Mujeres is adults-only (18+) in Playa Mujeres. The resort says every room is a suite, with 12 restaurants and an upgraded Excellence Club tier. It’s outside the Hotel Zone, so nights in town take a ride.
Social adults-only: Breathless Cancun Soul
Breathless Cancun Soul is Hyatt’s livelier adults-only option, aimed at “singles, couples and friends”. Hyatt lists 429 suites and two rooftop infinity pools, and says it’s about 25 minutes from the airport.
Adults-only in the Riviera Maya: Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya
Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya is an adults-only all-inclusive facing the Caribbean. Hyatt describes it as designed for relaxation and privacy, with a zero-entry pool. Check the resort for its exact location and transfer time before you book.

When to go and seaweed season
- Winter flights: non-stops from Halifax run late October to early May, which is also when most Canadians go.
- Hurricane season: travel.gc.ca says the Atlantic and Caribbean hurricane season runs from early June to the end of November.
- Seaweed (sargassum): arrivals vary a lot from year to year and beach to beach. In 2026, the Quintana Roo government reported that sargassum arrived early and stepped up beach clean-up from March. For current conditions, check Quintana Roo’s official sargassum beach traffic light, which rates 47 beaches daily, and the Mexican Navy’s daily sargassum bulletins.
If seaweed is a worry, look at resorts on more sheltered beaches and ask the resort how it handles sargassum.

Airport transfers from Cancún airport
Many packages include a transfer, and some resorts do too, but not all. Hyatt says Hyatt Ziva Cancun doesn’t include one. If yours doesn’t, pre-book a private transfer with Kiwitaxi and compare it with the resort’s own shuttle. travel.gc.ca advises using only reputable taxi companies and avoiding hailing taxis on the street.

Entry rules and safety for Canadians
According to travel.gc.ca (updated October 19, 2026):
- No visa is needed for tourist stays of up to 180 days, but the immigration officer decides how many days you get.
- If you arrive by air, you’ll need to complete the Multiple Digital Migratory Form (FMMD) online on arrival. Keep a copy with you.
- Your passport must be valid for the length of your stay.
- Canada advises a high degree of caution in Mexico because of crime and kidnapping. Quintana Roo, where Cancún and the Riviera Maya are, isn’t on its list of states to avoid. Read the full advisory before you go.
eSIM and travel insurance
- Data: get a Mexico eSIM from Airalo before you fly, or read our best eSIM for Canadians comparison.
- Insurance: travel.gc.ca notes that private health care in Mexico is generally expensive and recommends insurance that covers hospital stays and medical evacuation. Compare travel insurance with VisitorsCoverage.

It varies by year and beach. In 2026 Quintana Roo reported early sargassum arrivals and stepped up clean-up from March. Check the state’s daily sargassum beach traffic light before you go.
Do Canadians need a visa for Cancún?
No. travel.gc.ca says Canadians don’t need a visa for tourist stays of up to 180 days, though the officer sets your allowed stay. Air arrivals complete the digital FMMD form on arrival.
Are airport transfers included at Cancún all-inclusives?
Not always. Many packages include one, but Hyatt says Hyatt Ziva Cancun doesn’t include transfers. Check with your resort or pre-book a transfer.
