Which Punta Cana area suits you

  • Bávaro: the main resort strip, with the widest choice of all-inclusives at every budget. It’s busier, with more shops and restaurants nearby.
  • Cap Cana: a gated community south of the airport. Hyatt says it’s about 15 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport. It’s quieter and more upscale.
  • Uvero Alto: further north and more secluded, with a longer ride from the airport. It suits travellers who plan to stay put.

Best all-inclusives by type

We’ve only included details the resorts publish on their own sites. Always confirm age rules and what’s included before you book.

Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana welcomes all ages on Juanillo Beach in Cap Cana. Hyatt lists a water park with a lazy river and slides, infinity pools, floating swim-up suites, six restaurants and seven bars and lounges, and says the airport is about 15 minutes away.

Adults-only: Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana

Next door, Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana is exclusively for adults, also on Juanillo Beach. Hyatt’s FAQ says tips are included, and guests 18+ staying at the Ziva can use the Zilara.

Couples: Secrets Cap Cana

Secrets Cap Cana is an adults-only resort aimed at couples, with 457 suites on Juanillo Beach. Hyatt says Secrets restaurants don’t need reservations and tips and taxes are included.

Entry rules and the e-Ticket

According to travel.gc.ca (last updated May 26, 2026):

  • e-Ticket: you must complete the Dominican Republic’s electronic E-Ticket before you board, both to enter and to leave. You need a new one for every trip. A digital or printed copy of the code is fine.
  • Tourist card: if you fly in, it’s included in your airline ticket. The e-Ticket doesn’t replace it.
  • Visa: not required for tourist stays of up to 30 days. Extensions are possible through the immigration office in Santo Domingo.
  • Passport: travel.gc.ca says that until December 31, 2026, Canadians visiting as tourists need a passport valid for their stay. The same page also lists a six-month validity rule, so for trips in 2027, make sure your passport is valid for at least six months after arrival.
  • You may be asked to show proof of funds, your accommodation address and a return ticket.
  • Safety: Canada advises a high degree of caution in the Dominican Republic because of crime. Read the full advisory before you go.

Transfers and getting around

travel.gc.ca says taxis aren’t metered. It advises arranging your pick-up with your hotel before you arrive and using only official airport taxi stands. If your package doesn’t include a transfer, pre-book one with Kiwitaxi or ask your resort.

Stay connected with an Airalo eSIM (see our best eSIM for Canadians comparison). travel.gc.ca also recommends travel insurance that covers hospital stays and medical evacuation; compare plans with VisitorsCoverage.
