Halifax to Dublin Flights: WestJet Non-Stop & 2027 Outlook
Dublin is the shortest hop to Europe from Halifax. WestJet’s summer non-stop is as short as about 5.5 hours, overnight, and lands in the morning. This guide is just about Ireland: when the non-stop runs, what’s known about 2027, how to get there the rest of the year, and the entry rules for Canadians, including the UK’s ETA if you connect through London. For every European route from Halifax, see our cheap flights from Halifax to Europe guide.
Flight details come from Halifax Stanfield and WestJet, and entry rules from travel.gc.ca, Ireland’s immigration service and GOV.UK, all checked October 20, 2026. We don’t quote fares; they change daily.

Is there a direct flight from Halifax to Dublin?
Yes, in summer. WestJet is the only airline flying Halifax–Dublin non-stop. For 2026, Halifax Stanfield’s non-stop list showed:
| Airline | Peak frequency | Days | 2026 season |
|---|---|---|---|
| WestJet | 4 times a week | Tue, Wed, Fri, Sun | April 26 – October 11, 2026 |
The 2026 season has ended, so there’s no non-stop again until spring. WestJet says its Halifax–Dublin flight takes as little as about 5.5 hours (WestJet summer 2026 release via Halifax Stanfield). The flight leaves Halifax in the evening and arrives in Dublin the next morning.

Summer 2027: what we know
- Still on WestJet’s list: WestJet lists Halifax–Dublin as a returning summer route. When WestJet filed its first summer 2027 changes in September, it removed Halifax–Copenhagen, Halifax–Madrid and Toronto–Glasgow, but not Dublin (AeroRoutes, reported by PAX News).
- Not yet confirmed by the airport: as of October 20, 2026, Halifax Stanfield’s list still shows only the 2026 dates. Third-party schedule data shows WestJet flights from late April 2027, but neither WestJet nor the airport has published 2027 dates. Treat them as provisional.
General guidance: check WestJet’s booking site for 2027 dates before planning around them, and book refundable or changeable fares if you book early.
Flying to Dublin outside the summer season
From mid-October to late April you’ll need a connection. Options from Halifax Stanfield’s list:
- Through London Heathrow: Air Canada flies Halifax–Heathrow daily, year-round. Connect there to a flight to Dublin. Check the UK ETA rules below first.
- Through Toronto or other Canadian hubs: Halifax has year-round non-stops to Toronto and Montréal. Check which airlines fly onward to Dublin for your dates.
- Through the U.S.: Halifax has year-round non-stops to Boston and Newark. Some airlines fly from there to Dublin.
- Through Frankfurt: Discover Airlines flies Halifax–Frankfurt until November 19, 2026.
General guidance: connections through Canada or the U.S. avoid the UK ETA question entirely. On a separate-ticket connection, leave plenty of time and check whether you’ll need to collect bags.

Entry rules for Canadians
According to travel.gc.ca:
- Visa: Canadians don’t need a tourist or business visa for stays of up to 90 days.
- Passport: a regular Canadian passport must be valid for the expected length of your stay in Ireland.
- Not Schengen: Ireland is in the EU but not in the Schengen area, so you need a valid passport to travel between Ireland and other European countries. (The EU’s ETIAS applies to Schengen countries, not Ireland.)
- Northern Ireland: Northern Ireland is part of the UK, so make sure you meet UK entry rules if you’ll visit it.
Ireland’s immigration service says you must see an immigration officer on arrival. At a minimum, bring your passport and boarding card. Your itinerary, proof of funds, health insurance and accommodation details may also help. The officer decides whether to admit you.
Insurance matters: provincial health plans cover little abroad. Compare travel insurance with VisitorsCoverage.
Connecting through the UK: do you need an ETA?
Canadians need a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to visit the UK. For connections, GOV.UK says:
- Airside transit (you don’t pass UK border control): no ETA needed. The UK Home Office says this exemption is temporary and under review.
- Landside transit (you pass UK border control): you need an ETA.
- If you’re not sure which applies to your connection, check with your airline.
- Each traveller needs their own ETA, including children. Apply through the official UK ETA app or GOV.UK. The Home Office says other websites may charge more.
The UK ETA also applies if you visit Northern Ireland or the rest of the UK during your trip. That includes travelling on from Ireland, unless you live in Ireland.
