Direct Winter Flights from Halifax: Every 2026–27 Sun Non-Stop from YHZ

Halifax has more non-stop sun flights this winter than many Atlantic Canadians realise. For winter 2026–27, you can fly direct from Halifax Stanfield (YHZ) to Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, the Bahamas and Barbados, plus Florida and Bermuda. The catch is that most routes run only a few days a week, and some don’t start until January or February.

This guide lists every sun non-stop from YHZ for the season, airline by airline, with the days and dates published by the airport, cross-checked against the airlines’ own announcements where they exist. It also covers the destinations people search for that you can’t reach direct this winter, and how to plan a trip around once-a-week flights.

Direct flights from Halifax to the Caribbean and Mexico at a glance

All schedules below come from Halifax Stanfield’s non-stop flights page, checked October 19, 2026. The airport notes that schedules are subject to change, so verify with the airline before you book.

“Weekly flights at peak” adds up each airline’s peak frequency as listed by the airport. Not every airline flies every week of the season, so the real number in any given week can be lower.

Cancún, Mexico

Cancún has the most choice from Halifax this winter: four airlines, and once Air Transat and Porter start in mid-December, a departure on every day of the week.

Air Canada’s own Air Canada Vacations timetable lists the Tuesday and Saturday Halifax–Cancún flights for the same dates, and Porter’s announcement confirms its new Halifax–Cancún route from December 18, three times a week.

Punta Cana and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

Punta Cana

Air Canada’s Dominican Republic timetable shows its Halifax–Punta Cana flight on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from October 25, dropping Thursdays from late March. Compare Punta Cana stays on Trip.com.

Puerto Plata

Puerto Plata, on the north coast, is a later-season option: nothing direct until January, and Air Transat only from February.

Montego Bay, Jamaica

Each airline flies once a week. Before you book a resort, check that it’s open: after Hurricane Melissa, Hyatt delayed seven Montego Bay and Rose Hall resorts to the first quarter of 2027 at the earliest (Caribbean Journal). Compare Montego Bay stays on Trip.com.

Nassau and Barbados

Barbados is new this winter. Air Canada’s winter 2026–27 announcement lists Halifax–Bridgetown on Thursdays from December 17, and PAX News reports it’s the first direct service connecting the island with Atlantic Canada.

Florida and Bermuda

Air Transat also says it’s returning to Fort Lauderdale from Halifax with one flight a week from December 16, 2026 (Transat). That route isn’t on the airport’s list yet, so confirm with Air Transat.

No direct flights this winter: Cuba, Aruba and more

• Cuba (Varadero, Holguín, Cayo Coco): no flights. The Government of Canada says all Canadian airlines have suspended service to Cuba until further notice, and advises avoiding non-essential travel there (travel.gc.ca, updated October 5, 2026). We’re not recommending Cuba trips while that advisory stands.
• Aruba: no non-stop from Halifax. Porter’s new Aruba flights leave from Toronto and Ottawa, and Air Canada’s new Aruba route is from Montréal.
• Everywhere else: connect through Toronto or Montréal, where far more sun routes operate.

How to plan around weekly flights

• Let the flight set the trip length. On once-a-week routes (Nassau, Barbados, and each airline to Montego Bay) you’re choosing between one week and two.
• Mix airlines on busier routes. On Cancún and Punta Cana you can fly out with one airline and back with another to get the trip length you want. Book each leg separately only if you’re comfortable that a delay on one won’t be covered by the other.
• Watch season start dates. In November and early December, only Air Canada and WestJet fly to Cancún, and only Air Canada to Punta Cana.
• Book early for weekly routes. One flight a week means fewer seats when demand spikes around the holidays and March break.

Before you fly

• Insurance: Nova Scotia MSI only covers inpatient emergencies outside Canada, up to $525 CAD a day, and the province recommends travel health insurance. Compare plans with VisitorsCoverage.
• Entry rules: the Dominican Republic needs an E-Ticket form before each trip and a passport valid six months after arrival; Mexico has a digital immigration form on arrival; the Bahamas wants six months’ passport validity beyond departure (travel.gc.ca).

• Transfers: if your hotel doesn’t include one, check Kiwitaxi for your arrival airport.
• If your flight is delayed or cancelled: under Canada’s Air Passenger Protection Regulations, you may be owed compensation when the delay is within the airline’s control. You can claim directly from the airline for free, and complain to the Canadian Transportation Agency at no cost if the airline doesn’t resolve it. Services like AirHelp and Compensair can file the claim for you, but they keep a fee from any payout.
