Family All-Inclusive Vacations from Halifax (2026-27)

Halifax families have three easy non-stop all-inclusive options this winter: Cancún, Punta Cana and Montego Bay. This guide picks family resorts in each, using the kids’ club ages, teen clubs and water parks the resorts publish on their own sites. It also covers the documents Canadian children need, including when to carry a consent letter, and when school breaks fall.

Resort details come from each resort’s official site, flights from Halifax Stanfield’s non-stop list, and document rules from travel.gc.ca, all checked October 20, 2026. We don’t quote prices; they change daily.

Jamaica: Beaches Negril and RIU Ocho Rios

Jamaica is still recovering from Hurricane Melissa (October 2025), so pick a resort that has confirmed it’s open. Both of these have.

Beaches Negril is on Seven Mile Beach. Sandals Resorts said it would welcome guests back from December 6, 2025. Beaches lists Kids Camp programs supervised by certified nannies:

  • Infants 0–2, Toddlers 3–4 (must be potty-trained), Navigators 5–7, Adventurers 8–10, Tweens 11–14 and Teens 15–17;
  • camp hours of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a one-time registration for every child;
  • the Pirates Island Waterpark and round-trip airport transfers in the stay.

Beaches puts the resort about 75 km from Montego Bay airport.

Hotel Riu Ocho Rios is listed as open by the Jamaica Tourist Board. RIU says it’s on Mammee Bay, with 24-hour all-inclusive, the Splash Water World water park and a RIU Land kids’ area. It’s 90 km from MBJ, about 90 minutes by road, according to RIU. RIU’s page doesn’t give kids’ club ages, so ask the resort.

Compare Montego Bay area resorts on Trip.com. Check the Jamaica Tourist Board’s resort status page before you book any Jamaica resort. More detail is in our Halifax to Jamaica all-inclusive guide.

From travel.gc.ca:

  • Every Canadian child needs their own Canadian passport to travel outside Canada.
  • Children may also need a provincial birth certificate, and depending on family circumstances, divorce papers, custody orders or agreements, or a parent’s death certificate.
  • Children under 16 may sign their own passport. If they don’t, leave the signature block blank. A parent signing it makes it invalid.

From travel.gc.ca’s consent letter page:

  • A consent letter isn’t legally required in Canada, but immigration authorities, airline agents or Canadian officials may ask for it. Not having one can mean delays or being refused entry or exit.
  • When to carry one: a child travelling alone, with only one parent or guardian (even for part of the trip), with friends or relatives, or with a group.
  • Age: to avoid complications, any child under 19 should carry one when travelling without both parents or guardians.
  • Who signs: every parent or person with decision-making responsibility who isn’t travelling. A notary public witness is strongly recommended. Original signed letters are best, since photocopies or digital versions may not be accepted.
  • travel.gc.ca provides a sample template (interactive PDF or printable).
  • Some countries have their own rules for minors and may not accept the letter. Check the destination’s page in Travel Advice and Advisories and its embassy or consulate.

Travel insurance matters more with kids along: provincial health plans cover little abroad. Compare family travel insurance with VisitorsCoverage.

School breaks and timing

Nova Scotia’s 2026–27 school calendar puts the holiday break at December 22 to January 1 and March Break at March 8–12, 2027. Several Halifax non-stops (Air Transat to Cancún and Punta Cana, Porter to Cancún, WestJet to Montego Bay) don’t start until mid-December or later, so check the start date against your dates.

General guidance: school-break weeks are the busiest, so book flights and resort together early, and choose refundable options where you can. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, peaking August to October, according to NOAA. See our cheapest time to go all-inclusive guide for booking windows.
