Halifax to Jamaica All-Inclusive: Flights & Open Resorts
Jamaica is back on the winter map from Halifax, with three airlines flying non-stop to Montego Bay. It’s still recovering from Hurricane Melissa, which hit in October 2025, so the most important step is checking that your resort is actually open. This guide covers the flights, which resorts have confirmed they’re open or reopening, Montego Bay vs Negril vs Ocho Rios, and the entry rules for Canadians.
Flight details come from Halifax Stanfield, entry rules from travel.gc.ca, and reopening information from the Jamaica Tourist Board and the resorts’ own sites, all checked October 20, 2026. We don’t quote prices.

Direct flights from Halifax to Montego Bay
All Jamaica non-stops from Halifax go to Montego Bay (MBJ), once a week per airline, according to Halifax Stanfield:
| Airline | Day | Season |
|---|---|---|
| Air Canada | Thursday | Dec 3, 2026 – Apr 8, 2027 |
| Air Transat | Sunday | Dec 20, 2026 – Apr 25, 2027 |
| WestJet | Monday | Feb 8, 2027 – May 10, 2027 |
Because each airline flies only once a week, seats on peak weeks can go quickly, and your trip length is set by the flight days. Mixing airlines (for example, out Thursday on Air Canada, back Sunday on Air Transat) is one way to get a different trip length. See every sun route in our direct winter flights from Halifax guide.
Hurricane Melissa: which resorts are open
The Jamaica Tourist Board says Jamaica is open to visitors. Some areas have been fully restored, while repairs continue in the worst-hit areas. It keeps a rolling hotel reopening schedule and notes that dates can change.
According to the Jamaica Information Service, quoting the Jamaica Tourist Board in September 2026:
- Reopening in December 2026: Sandals Montego Bay, Sandals Caribbean Cay, Bahia Principe Explore Runaway Bay, Muthu Crystal Cove and Muthu Diamond Lagoon (Montego Bay), and JOIA Rose Hall by Iberostar.
- Reopening in the first quarter of 2027: Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall, Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall, Dreams Rose Hall, Breathless, Secrets St. James, Secrets Wild Orchid, Jewel Grande, Catalonia, MGM Grand Muthu Runaway Bay Club and UNICO 18°77°.
Many of the big Montego Bay and Rose Hall resorts won’t be open for the start of the season. Before you book, check your resort’s own website and the Tourist Board list, and consider a package or a flexible rate in case the date moves.

Montego Bay vs Negril vs Ocho Rios
- Montego Bay: closest to the airport, with the shortest transfers. Many of its larger resorts are among those still reopening this winter.
- Negril: known for Seven Mile Beach and sunsets on the west coast. It’s a longer drive from MBJ (see below).
- Ocho Rios: on the north coast east of Montego Bay, near Dunn’s River Falls. Also a longer drive.

Excursions: book a Dunn’s River Falls, zipline and bamboo rafting tour on Viator. After Hurricane Melissa, check with the operator that it is running before you go.
Best all-inclusives: adults-only and family
We only include resorts whose own sites or the Jamaica Tourist Board show them open or with a confirmed reopening date. Details come from the resorts’ sites.
Adults-only near the airport: Sandals Montego Bay (from December 18)
Sandals Montego Bay says it reopens on December 18, 2026 with a redesigned pool, and it’s taking bookings now. It’s adults-only for couples, with 9 restaurants and 6 bars. Sandals lists round-trip airport transfers and all gratuities and taxes as included.
Adults-only on Seven Mile Beach: Sandals Negril
Sandals Negril is on Seven Mile Beach. Sandals lists 8 restaurants, 5 bars (including 2 swim-up bars), round-trip transfers and all taxes and gratuities. It’s a 72.7 km (45.2 mile) drive from Montego Bay airport, according to Sandals.
Families in Negril: Beaches Negril
Beaches Negril is a family all-inclusive on Seven Mile Beach. Beaches lists the Pirates Island Waterpark, Kids Camp with certified nannies, 13 dining options, round-trip airport transfers and all tips, taxes and gratuities. It says it’s about 75 km (47 miles) from Montego Bay airport.
Families in Ocho Rios: Hotel Riu Ocho Rios
The Jamaica Tourist Board lists Hotel Riu Ocho Rios as open. RIU says it’s on Mammee Bay, with 24-hour all-inclusive, the Splash Water World water park and a RIU Land kids’ area. It puts the resort 90 km from MBJ, about a 90-minute drive.

Airport transfers and drive times
The Sandals and Beaches resorts above include round-trip transfers. If yours doesn’t, travel.gc.ca advises using only taxis ordered through hotels or authorized by JUTA (red-and-white “PP” plates and a lime-green JUTA sticker), agreeing the fare before you leave because taxis aren’t metered. You can also pre-book a transfer with Kiwitaxi.
| From Montego Bay airport to | Distance (per the resort) |
|---|---|
| Sandals Negril | 72.7 km |
| Beaches Negril | about 75 km |
| Hotel Riu Ocho Rios | 90 km, about 90 minutes |
Safety and entry rules for Canadians
According to travel.gc.ca (last updated May 26, 2026):
- Advisory: exercise a high degree of caution because of violent crime, particularly outside tourist areas. Parts of Kingston and Montego Bay have high crime. Gated, guarded compounds are considered the safest accommodation.
- Passport: must be valid for your expected stay.
- Visa: not needed for stays of up to 90 days.
- Immigration form: submit your information online before you arrive, or fill in the landing card on the plane or at the airport and keep it for departure.
- You may be asked for a return ticket and proof of funds.
- Drugs: departing visitors are thoroughly screened. Never carry anyone else’s bags.
Get a Jamaica eSIM from Airalo before you go. travel.gc.ca says you may need to pay upfront for medical care, so compare travel insurance with VisitorsCoverage.
When to go
- Flights: Halifax non-stops run from early December (Air Canada) to early May (WestJet).
- Hurricane season: early June to the end of November, per travel.gc.ca.
- Resort choice grows through the season: more resorts are due to reopen in December and the first quarter of 2027, so a February or March trip will likely have more options than December.
